My quick thought for today is to remember that everyone has value. We can find it within ourselves when we look for it, when we nurture it, and when we are kind to each other.
John Steinbeck wrote about the struggle within us all between good and evil in East of Eden, which I discuss here.
We should look for good in others. We can help reduce negativity in the world by trying to find the value in other people. In All the Light We Cannot See, Anthony Doerr discusses the light that is hidden in each of us. We can make the world better by sharing our own light, and recognizing the light in others.

I think this is the philosophy by which the Japanese people live. I recently returned from a trip to Japan and I was mesmerized by their ways. They are all about being kind, considerate and fair to one another and others and I felt peaceful there. You’re right, we do need to remember that everyone has value and everyone deserves compassion and respect. Being considerate, kind and respectful toward each other is the only way we’ll find peace. Great post! 😀 xx
Thanks, Vashti! I am jealous of your trip to Japan. I would love to go there someday (even just for the sushi…). I love that you noticed how peaceful you felt there. To me, when we feel peace somewhere or with someone, that’s a sign that they are someone that looks for the good in themselves and others.
“We can make the world better by sharing our own light, and recognizing the light in others.” I believe that we recognize the light in others when we accept that everything doesn’t revolve around us or emanate from us; and that others have lights, too. That recognition is us being unselfish. Deep quick thought.
So true, Linda! We all have so much to share with each other. And it’s not all about “me”! A quote I heard once that I like is “Live outside yourself in love.”
I like this quick thought! It’s so true if we find our own light and look for it in others:)
I think it’s important to find the good in everyone.
I agree!
